Embracing criticism as a writer is a smart and effective way to grow your skills and improve your craft. While it's always nice to receive positive reviews, it's the constructive criticism that truly helps us evolve and refine our writing abilities.
Criticism provides valuable insights into areas where we may be lacking in our technical skills or where our writing could benefit from further development. By carefully considering and incorporating feedback, we can address any weaknesses, expand our knowledge, and enhance the overall quality of our work.
Every review, positive or negative, offers an opportunity for growth. Rather than being discouraged by criticism, wise writers view it as a chance to learn and improve. By actively seeking out feedback and utilizing it to hone their skills, writers can continually elevate their writing to new heights.
Recently I received a great review for my book Broken Petals. However, there was a critic given.
"One thing I wasn’t a big fan of was the whirlwind of time. The book flashes forward in time sometimes not spending enough time elaborating on events that I feel were important. I wish there had been a slower, more detailed pace at points."
It is my goal to grow as a writer. So, with this particular critique, I will pay more attention to expanding/slowing the pace to allow the reader to become fully immersed in the story.
So let us embrace all reviews with gratitude, recognizing that even the harshest critiques can serve as steppingstones towards becoming better writers.
