Pages of Red Roses (Short Story)

Pages of Red Roses by Tasha Hutchison | Short Story

As the sun sat above the majestic peaks, casting a warm glow over the tranquil lake nestled in the mountains, Maya found solace at her favorite spot by the water. Her brown tousled hair danced in the gentle breeze as she sat alone at the wooden table, the soft lapping of the waves providing a soothing soundtrack to her solitude. With the new book, Red Roses by Tasha Hutchison, in one hand and a perfectly mixed martini, she lost herself in the pages, letting the words transport her to distant lands and forgotten dreams.

Despite the beauty surrounding her, Maya couldn’t shake the weight of her thoughts. As a brown girl in a predominantly white town, she often felt like an outsider, her differences magnified against the picturesque backdrop. Yet, here by the lake, she found a refuge from the stares and whispers, a space where she could simply be herself. With each sip of her martini and each turn of the page, she reclaimed peace.

As the evening descended and the stars began to twinkle overhead, Maya closed her book, a sense of peace settling within her. With a contented sigh, she savored the last sip of her martini, feeling grateful for this moment of serenity amidst life’s chaos. With renewed resolve, the same as the girlfriends in her book, Brooklyn, Iris, Tammy, and Lorraine. She gathered her belongings, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, knowing that she carried within her the resilience of her ancestors and the wisdom of her journey.
